The far side doesn't just face away from Earth. It listens. A Raven automated relay on the near side caught the first reply years ago — short, structured bursts that mirrored test pings Raven had sent as probes. No one expected an answer.

Operative callsign PHANTOM was inserted via classified orbital transfer and trekked EVA across regolith to establish a temporary rim post — a half-buried module with a large bisected window overlooking the shadowed crater floor. Inside: dim red emergency lighting, multiple screens showing live feeds from rim cameras, thermal overlays, waveform displays pulsing with the signal. PHANTOM sits at the console, suit off, breathing recycled air, staring out while the crater remains perfectly still.
But the silence is wrong.

Thermal cams show faint heat blooms moving in the shadow — angular shapes that don't match probes or rovers. The telescope reveals glyphs etched into the regolith — violet-glowing script matching fragments from earlier recoveries.
