Full Police Report:
“On March 12th, 2022, I was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a Flagler County Deputy and a blue Nissan car (suspect vehicle). Upon arriving on scene, I observed a marked Flagler County Sheriff’s Office SUV within the outer lane with heavy right side rear damage. Upon speaking with the deputies on scene, the front and rear bumpers of a blue car were located on scene. The rear bumper had a Florida license plate attached to it.

Corporal West of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office advised me that he was traveling southbound when he observed two vehicles traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, the vehicles were clocked traveling approximately 111 mph in a 55 mph zone. Corporal West positioned his vehicle within the left turn lane, awaiting the approach of the two speeding vehicles. Corporal West observed both vehicles driving recklessly, possibly racing, with a willful and wanton disregard for safety of persons or property. Deputy West observed the blue car fail to maintain control of the vehicle and began sliding through the grass median towards the front of his vehicle. Corporal West attempted to move out of the way of the oncoming vehicle, but the right rear of the blue car struck the right side rear of Corporal West’s patrol car. After the collision, Corporal West's vehicle came to final rest within the outside lane of the highway and was inoperable. The blue car continued sliding onto the southbound travel lanes. The blue car fled the scene after the crash and continued northbound. Corporal West sustained minor injuries as a direct result of the vehicle crash. Corporal West was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. Deputy Hartley located the blue car at the registered owner's address. He observed a white male standing next to the driver's side door of a blue car. The male located next to the car advised that he was the driver of the car and Deputy Hartley immediately detained the driver in handcuffs.

Upon clearing the scene Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Yuknavage and myself went to the address of the registered owner of the blue car. Upon arriving at the residence, I observed a blue Nissan 350z in the driveway with heavy damage to the front, rear and right side of the vehicle, consistent with being in a crash and evidence located on the scene of the hit and run crash. I made contact with the driver of the blue car and was able to identify him by his driver's license as Brandon. Brandon was read his miranda rights by Deputy Hartley prior to my arrival. Brandon advised me that he was driving the Nissan at the time of the crash. He stated that he and an orange Charger were traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the highway. Brandon was in the left lane and the Charger was in the right lane. Brandon advised me that the Charger entered his lane and struck the left front of his vehicle, causing him to run off the road and crash into Corporal West’s patrol vehicle.

Brandon’s girlfriend advised me that she was the passenger in the car at the time of the crash. She stated that Brandon and the orange Dodge Charger accelerated to a high rate of speed before Brandon lost control of his car and struck Corporal West’s patrol car. She advised me that she told Brandon to stay on scene after the crash but Brandon told her that he was going after the orange Charger instead.

Given the rate of speed that Brandon was traveling at the time of the crash he would have known that the crash would have resulted in injury to Corporal West. I considered the totality of circumstances and placed Brandon under arrest for failing to stop and remain on scene of a crash involving injury.”
