公眾講座：四環九約之外 — 東區的歷史發展與建築

撮要：
十九世紀晚期，香港島早期的發展都集中於維多利亞城，即西環、上環、中環和下環(今灣仔)一帶，雖然今天大部份屬於港島東區的筲箕灣、鰂魚涌、北角等地不屬當年維多利亞城，但仍有不少故事遺留下來。

講者在2003年擔任《東區風物志》的執行編輯，講者整理當年所搜集得來的資料，結合期後收集的官方文獻，透過這次講座從柴灣羅屋、舊鯉魚門軍營、筲箕灣廟群、太古煉糖廠遺跡、北角等地，串連現已獲評級的三十多處歷史建築和消逝地標，讓大家一起漫遊東區，了解它的故事。

Public Lecture: Beyond the Four Districts and Nine Sub-Districts – The Historical Development and Architecture of the Eastern District

Speaker: Mr Shum Si (Honorary Research Associate, Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong)

Abstract:
In the late 19th Century, development of Hong Kong was focused on the City of Victoria referring to nowadays Sai Wan, Sheung Wan, Central and Wan Chai (formerly Ha Wan). Places such as Shau Kei Wan, Quarry Bay, North Point, etc., mostly in the Eastern District, although fall outside the City of Victoria, these places are still having rich stories.

As the Executive Editor of "Eastern Heritage" published in 2003, the speaker having compiled the materials collected at that time and his recently-collected official documents will share stories about Law Uk in Chai Wan, the old Lei Yue Mun Barracks, temples in Shau Kei Wan, remnants of the Taikoo Sugar Refinery, North Point and more than 30 graded historic buildings as well as some faded landmarks in the lecture. Let us follow the speaker to understand more about the Eastern District.
