Anyone following developments in the Amiga community will already be aware of the Scorpion game development engine and studio kit, created by Erik Hogan (AKA Earok). Scorpion aims to lower the barrier of entry to Amiga game development, and we're now starting to see some great fan projects, based on Scorpion, starting to appear.

One of the first is Green Beret, a conversion of the Konami arcade classic, created by game dev and graphic artist, Dante Mendes (@dantemendes on Twitter). I have to admit, for what is effectively a hobby project, Green Beret is a really great attempt at porting the arcade coin-op version to the Amiga. The artwork is almost identical to the arcade version, complete with all the stages, bad guys and weapons, plus there's a choice of original arcade and NES soundtracks, all arranged by DJ Metune.

There are a couple of quirks here and there, including the ability to fire multiple special weapons while crouching, but the game remains perfectly playable throughout.
