Join David for an inspiring tour of the views of George Inness (1825-1894) overlooking New York City in Montclair , New Jersey. In this program David Dunlop firsts visits the George Inness room at the Montclair Art Museum and explores the evolution of Inness’s paintings and his philosophy. George Inness (1825-1894) was inspired by the classical landscape painters, especially the classic 17th century French artist Claude Lorrain, considered the father of landscape painting. David then sets up his easel on the hillside in Montclair, New Jersey and demonstrates the techniques of Inness, his quest for a union of spirituality and paint, his reliance on ambiguity, his sources of inspiration and his enduring influence in the world of art. David then works with fellow artist Dana Goodfellow on her painting of a nearby woodland scene. In all cases with fellow artists, David specifically asks if the artist would like him to work directly on the painting and receives their express permission.
