Floris Kalman - Holocaust Survivor Testimony

Floris was born in 1934 in Brussels. Her parents were Polish Jews who had emigrated to Belgium in 1929. In 1939, Floris’ little sister Danielle was born.

The Germans attacked Belgium in May 1940. By early 1942 Floris' father was not allowed to run his business any longer, and all Jews had to wear yellow stars. From mid-1942 until 1944 Floris and her family went into hiding, mostly in separate locations. Floris stayed in six different places during this period, a devastating experience for a child.

Belgium was liberated in September 1944 and Floris' family was finally reunited.
