Bandel is a city of Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The name Bandel means port. The city of Bandel was founded by the Portuguese. Bandel Church is the oldest Christian church in West Bengal and an excellent tourist attraction. Bandel Church is one of the oldest churches in India and is also known as The Basilica of the Holy Rosary. It stands as a monument to the Portuguese settlement in Bengal. The church was built in 1599. The church is dedicated to Marry, the mother of Jesus Christ. She is also known as Our Lady of the Rosary and that is why the church got this name. It is one of the most prominent historical churches in India as well as West Bengal.Bandel Church can be visited from 08:00 am to 04:30 pm. It takes about two to three hours to visit the church because there is so much to see inside and around the church. The church is open all day, including public holidays. There is no entrance fee to visit and tourists can come at any time to visit the church. The period from 25 December to 10 January is very busy and can cause parking problems. On December 25 the church is closed to tourists because Christians have to perform many rituals.

✓How to go :

Take Howrah Burdwan Main Line Local/Howrah Katwa local/ Howrah bandel Local from Howrah and get off at Bandel Station. The distance is about 40 kilometers. Also, if you want to come from Sealdah, take a train from Sealdah and get off at Naihati station. Take the Naihati Bandel local train from Naihati station. Get off at Bandel Station and rent a Toto or Auto from there and reach Bandel Church in 10 to 15 minutes. Or get off at Naihati station and come to the ferry terminal and cross the Hooghly river to Chinsura . from there rent a Toto or Auto and reach straight to Bandel Church.
