Winter Sprint Programming Concepts Overview

Описание к видео Winter Sprint Programming Concepts Overview

As we enter the winter months, finding ways to program and implement speed work becomes more of a challenge. If you know anything about me, having myself and my athletes sprint all year round is a must, not just for performance but also for general health and resiliency. Having a plan around how you can incorporate speed work and supportive training elements is very important for successfully dealing with the constraints faced in colder climates with limited indoor training space. In an era where people get overly excited about new exercises and technology, solid program planning is very much needed to ensure consistent and useful training stressors are applied on a consistent basis.

Visually arranging your training elements and volumes is a very useful step in the planning process for coaches. It allows you to conceptualize your direction and provides you with the flexibility to make adjustments on the fly as you see fit. None of us are intelligent enough to know exactly what volumes and intensities an athlete can handle in Week 6 or Week 11 of a training program. We make some educated guess in a ballpark sense, and then apply adjustments where necessary. If you are a good coach, you are constantly assessing and monitoring the status of your athletes and then adjusting your program.

I will be posting more planning videos in the future, with deeper dives into specific volumes and exercises that I use from week to week, and month to month. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and discuss what you are doing for your winter training. Happy Holiday training everyone!
