We’ll look at one more example of initializing a synthesizer from a complex preset and in the process talk about how you can learn a lot from the process. We’ll be using Diversion for this example because it is chalked full of features and custom routing options.

One school of thought to learning synthesis is the “Reverse Engineering” approach. That’s pretty much what we are doing in this video. Take a complex patch and figure out how to break it down to nothing more than a single saw wave. However, what I’m going to show you is a little more creative and flexible. As we strip back this preset we’ll come across interesting features of the synth worth exploring and when that happens we’ll explore them.
