Ep. 40 PUBLIC MOSAICS, Imagine Museum, florals & more filati!

Field trip time! I take you inside the Museum of Glass with some photos (no video allowed). Lots of cast and blown glass was there, but the Pavlos Mavromatidis (CaCO3) mosaics were gorgeous in person!
Then we went to the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, FL where I stumbled upon a few mosaics. This is a free garden! There was a wildlife mosaic, then a bench and table and then another bench. Lastly, I spotted some floral motif mosaics. They repeated on the entrance pillars and were simple but beautiful!
Our next stop was in Safety Harbor at The Safety Harbor Art and Music Center where we met Heather Richardson. Heather teaches classes and make lots of local community mosaics for schools and libraries.
Finally I'm back in my studio and I work on the background for my white orchid mosaic. Then I prep a new substrate.
I decide to tackle a Morning Glory mosaic, but the bright purple and fuscia are impossible to achieve with regular glass! I turn to Pebeo Glass paints in Bengal Pink and Frosted Mauve. These paints are oven baked to set them and I place the painted side down in my mosaic.
Then I head outside to pull more filati and make some more rings for The Ruins Project.
