Grotte du Mas d'Azil, Road D119, Ariège, Occitania, France - by motorcycle

In the course of time, the river Arize has washed a tunnel cave about 450 meters long into the chalk rock, which today is so wide (about 50 - 60 meters) that a well-developed national road (D119) can pass through it. At the northern exit of the tunnel is the village of Mas d'Azil, which also gave its name to the cave. The cave is particularly well known as a prehistoric site. A museum is located on the east side in the center of the cave. The museum can be reached on foot from the south. The route is easy to drive; however, the maximum speed is limited to 30 km/h. The tunnel is lighted, but the rapidly changing light conditions should be taken into account when driving. The Grotte du Mas d'Azil is located in the department of Ariège and here in the region of Occitania.
