BURRELLS ON THE BYWAYS
The steam engines produced by Charles Burrell of Thetford are today amongst the best
numerous in preservation. Here we see 16 DIFFERENT BURRELLS ranging from the
Gold Medal Tractor Defiance to the Road Locomotive Clinker, and from the oldest
surviving engine Century to a large 10 hp example visiting the UK from New Zealand.
• WORKING THE LAND
Since the demise of steam, the internal combustion engined tractor has ruled supreme
on the farm. With many vintage tractors now in preservation, ploughing matches and demonstrations at rallies are now commonplace. Tractors are seen at work in Wiltshire and at the Weeting rally in Sultolk.
• KINGS OF THE ROAD
Commercial Vehicle action from two major north country road runs. A vast variety of vehicles are seen in all shapes and sizes plus some PSVs for good measure. Once great names such as AC, Albion and Leyland are guaranteed to rekindle memories of the UK's road transport of the past.
• OPEN CRANK CLASSICS
Today, a multitude of makes and types of stationary engines can be picked out around the rallyfield. These ‘pre-electricity power sources are cherished and displayed with great enthusiasm - nowhere more so than the Tatton park engine rally which is the Mecca for stationary engine enthusiasts. We look at examples from the 1996 events
• STEAMING 'AT THE DOUBLE'
Concluding with top railway action from two of the UK's leading preserved lines, the Great Central Railway and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
All the sequences feature DOUBLE HEADED workings with locomotives ranging from those built during the last century to the more 'modern' British Railways standard classes.
