Karen Read Prosecutors Call Defense’s Attempt to Dismiss Charges ‘Legally Inappropriate’

Karen Read’s defense team claims they heard from several jurors who said they agreed to acquit the Massachusetts woman on two of the three charges against her, one being second-degree murder. But, prosecutors have filed their response to her team’s attempt to dismiss those charges as the Commonwealth fights for a new trial. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber explains why prosecutors called the request “hearsay” and “legally inappropriate.”

Karen Read faces several charges including second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death. She was arrested in February of 2022, a few days after John O’Keefe died. If convicted, Read faces life in prison.
