The first ecozone on Kilimanjaro is the rainforest. The rainforest is very humid and moist and having a rain poncho would be a good idea. As we ascend out of the rainforest, the heath and moorland zones are more arid and cool. Rain still occurs here and temperatures go from warm in the day to freezing at night so you’ll need warm layers for nighttime. The alpine desert is wide open with more wind and cold temperatures. The arctic zone extends up to the summit (16,000 -19,000ft) and features arctic winter temperatures. Kilimanjaro requires preparation for warm, humid areas as well as icy, cold areas.
