Dual Stream Recycling & Organics → DSNY in Brooklyn

Here's the last footage of DSNY I have from my trip to NYC in summer 2018. One morning I took the subway out to Brooklyn in hopes of finding one of their split Heil 5000s handling both streams of recycling. In Brooklyn, as with most areas of NYC, recycling is separated by containers (plastic, glass, metal, etc) and fibers (paper, cardboard). When I got to the route, unfortunately there was 1 truck handling each stream, but it was still cool to see the iconic DSNY bag tossing with fast and efficient crews. At the end of this video I added a few clips of the compost truck I found on the same route. I believe this is a pilot program that exists in the more suburban areas DSNY services, allowing residents to keep food scraps and the few yard trimmings they have out of landfills. After all, trash is very expensive to handle in NYC and the surrounding cities as nearly all of it is exported out of state.
