G. J. Vogler: 32 Preludes pt. 3 (Nos. 17-24) on 1783 Söderström organ. Henrik Berg, organ.

Nos. 17-24 from 32 Preludes by German composer (Abbé) Georg Joseph Vogler (1749-1814), played on the 1783 Niclas (Nils) Söderström organ in Husby Church, Dala-Husby, Sweden. This instrument is one of the biggest 18th century organs still remaining in Sweden, and quite unique in that it was built by the organist of the church, who was an organ builder who unfortunately failed his organ builder exams. He built some organs anyway, but there are certainly some technical quirks to this instrument. The organ was left virtually unchanged to our days, and a new instrument was built by Åkerman & Lund on the loft underneath it in 1935, almost invisible.

The mixtures of this organ are somewhat unusual: The Mixtur III of the MANUAL contains a tierce rank (normal in Swedish organs until the 1940's) and is very deep pitched – in the treble it's based on the 32' harmonic series (!), while the Sesqvialtera of the ÖFVERVERK is based on 16' and does NOT contain a tierce. Caret 2' is a flute, it was originally a vacant stop (caret means 'it lacks' in Latin) but was filled in with a flute in Söderström style at the last renovation.
