This video deals with the biography or life story of Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay / R D Banerji ( রাখালদাস বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় / ব্যানার্জী : জীবন কাহিনী / জীবনী ) as a tragic hero in Bengali. The name is associated with Mahenjodaro as he was the first discoverer of Mahenjodar Civilization which is almost five thousand years age old civilization. Throughout his service career, he had to face lots of hazards, mainly created by his office colleagues including his boss Sir John Marshal who is considered abroad as the first discoverer of Mahenjodaro Civilization in place of RakhalDas Bandyopadhyay. In this video I have tried to focus on the odds of his life , due to which he could be called a tragic hero indeed.

Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay was born on 12 April in 1885 at Kalimati Village near Berhampore of Murshidabad district. His parents were Matilal Bandyopadhyay and Kalimati Debo. Rakhaldas passed Entrance Examination in 1900 from Berhampore Krishnanath College. Later he took admission in Presidency College and became graduate there in 1907. He passed MA in History from the Calcutta University in 1910.
During student Life, Rakhaldas joined the indian museum, Calcutta, as an Assistant to the Archaeological Section in 1910 and joined the Archaeological Survey of India as Assistant Superintendent in 1911. Promoted to the rank of Superintend Archaeologist in 1917, Rakhaldas took voluntary retirement under critical situation in 1926. He then joined the Banaras Hindu University in 1928 as Manindra Chandra Nandy Professor of Ancient Indian History and Culture and held the post till his death on in 1930.
To tell the truth, he was really an unparalleled archaeologist, historian, epigraphist and palaeographer and a litterateur. This video is made to celebrate his birthday that falls today.
