Although I play this song on a 5-string bass; it’s a 4-string bassline and I only use the E-A-D-G strings!

Tiran Porter is certainly one of my favorite bassplayers! His basslines are always a mix of functional and tasteful riffs and grooves. In this song he uses a lot hammer on notes on the B and C# note on the E-string. Look for instance at bar 8 and 12.
What I especially like in this bassline is the slide in the maingroove of the Verse (for instance bar 19 and 23). I also like the melodic lines he uses in the Bridge. Listen for instance at bars 63, 67. And really excellent is the melodic lick in bar 78!

The lick in the interlude (just before the solo starts) is really tricky! You might expect a slide/hammer on on the 1st and 3rd beat. But Tiran plays a hammer on every third eight note. It’s a challenge to get this right!

An other nice detail is the break before Verse 2. He let’s the low open E-string ring while he plays the E notes on the A-string. He also ends the song this way.

Standard E-A-D-G tuning. No effects used (except a bit compression and reverb). Tune your bass just a little bit low A4 = 337 Hz.
