Austin mini Clutch master cylinder strip and rebuild

Rebuilding/ refurbishing old parts on your car can save you a lot of money as well as preserving some of the original components of your car and this video shows you how I rebuild my clutch master cylinder!

Having being parked up for almost 2 years as well being 30 years old the clutch master cylinder developed a leak so rather than just renew the entire clutch master cylinder I thought I'd have a go at rebuilding it with a kit I bought from a mini specialist.

Getting the clutch master cylinder out was a bit of a challenge. but as it's a mini everything comes apart easily. First thing I done was remove the front seats and carpet. This allowed me more room to lie on the floor to access the clevis pin that connects the clutch master cylinder to the clutch pedal. Once the seats/ carpet was removed I then moved the heater box to the side to give me a clear view of the clevis pin and better access.

Once I had a clear view of the clevis pin I used a pair of long nose pliers to pull the split pin out and in turn removing the clevis pin itself, freeing the clutch master cylinder link from the pedal. Inside the engine bay I drained out the fluid from the clutch master cylinder to minimise the spillage and removed my air filter box to gain better access to the bolts holding the master cylinder to the bulkhead of the car. Using a 1/2" dumpy spanner I undone the nut that's underneath the master cylinder and used a 1/2" socket with a long extension on the other nut.

Once removed I took the whole assembly to the bench and stripped it down then laid out the old parts and compared them to the new parts. I then swapped the old parts for the new ones and cleaned up the master cylinder and refitted the piston/ spring to the old cylinder. Refitting back to the car was the same process but in reverse order
