ഈനാമ്പേച്ചി, ഉറുമ്പുതീനി, ഇത്തിൾ മുള്ളൻ, ഇത്തിൾ പന്നി, അള്ളോൻ, അളുങ്ക്, അളുങ്കൻ, അളുങ്ങൻ, ചക്കിപ്പീലി, പൊട്ടിക്ക്രായ്, പൊട്ടിച്ചക്കി, അടുക്ക് മുള്ളൻ, ഇങ്ങനെഒക്കെ പേരുള്ള ഈ ജീവി ഒരു പാവമാണ്.
പേച്ച് എന്നതിന് വർത്തമാനം എന്നാണല്ലോ അർത്ഥം. ശബ്ദം വ്യക്തമാകാതെ അതുമിതും പിറുപിറുക്കുന്നതിന് പെനയുക എന്ന് മലബാറിൽ പറയും. കാരണമില്ലാതെ അങ്ങിനെ സംസാരിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് പേന കൂടിയതാണ് എന്നും പറയും. ( പേന - മാടൻ- മറുത എന്നൊക്കെ പറയുന്ന ഒരു തരം ഗതികിട്ടാ പ്രേതാത്മക്കളാണ് എന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം ) . ഈനാമ്പേച്ചി ചിതലും ഉറുമ്പും തപ്പി മൂക്ക് കൊണ്ട് മണത്തും ചീറ്റിയും പിരുപിര നടക്കുമ്പോഴുണ്ടാകുന്ന ശബ്ദം ആയിരിക്കാം ഇത്തരം ഒരു എരണംകെട്ട പേര് കിട്ടാൻ കാരണം. ഇത്തിൾ മുള്ളൻ എന്ന് ചില പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ പറയുന്ന പേരാണ് ശരിക്കും നന്നായി ചേരുക. ചുരുണ്ടു കൂടി കിടക്കുന്നവരെ വടക്കേ മലബാറിൽ " അള്ളോൻ ചുരുണ്ട പോലെ" എന്ന പ്രയോഗം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. 'അള്ളോൻ', ഇത്തിൾ മുള്ളൻ, ഉരുണ്ടു ചക്കി പോലുള്ള പല പ്രാദേശിക നാമങ്ങളും ഇവർക്ക് ഉണ്ടാവും . കാഴ്ചയിൽ ആളൊരു പ്രശ്നക്കാരനാണെന്ന് ആരും തെറ്റിദ്ധരിക്കുന്ന ശരീര സൗന്ദര്യമായിപ്പോയി പാവത്തിന് !
