"The local Dunmer liquor, Sujamma, is extremely potent, and indulgence results in elevated spirits and diminished mental faculties. Has a kick like a guar - very strong, and just as stupid." - Innkeepers in Morrowind

Welcome to the Retching Netch Cornerclub! Sujamma is a mysterious brew originating in Morrowind and produced by the local Dark Elves. In today’s video, we’ll explore several different interpretations of the Dunmer beverage and then try to make as lore accurate of a concoction as we can, ultimately landing on my definitive version of the mysterious brew. Featuring interpretations of Sujamma from How to Drink and Experience Bar that work well in their portrayals of Talen Jei's Cliff Racer Cocktail at the Bee and Barb in Riften, an adaption of Geldis Sadri's Sujamma from Talviel of Talviel's Kitchen and the Tastes of Tamriel tumblr blog, a recipe I found on reddit made by u/BearInTheVale that takes the Elder Scrolls Online recipe of barley alcohol, comberry tea and lemon at face value, and cumulating in my own intepretation of the ESO parameters filtered through an examination of real-world ingredient parallels (I settled on goji berries and cranberries - who knew "comberry" could be interpreted so many different ways?), there's sure to be a Sujamma recipe to please the Dark Elf in your life!

Nic's Comberry Tea (Concentrate)

Ingredients:
Dried Cranberries
Dried Goji Berries
Water
Strainer
Measuring Cup

Instructions:
Get a kettle of water boiling and while it heats up, add 5 grams of unsweetened dried cranberries and 10 grams of goji berries to a strainer (in hindsight, this could/should be doubled for a more prominent berry flavor in the final beverage). Once the water is up to temp, rinse the berries with the boiling water and discard the rinse. Place the strainer in your steeping vessel and pour one cup of boiling water over them. Allow to steep for 30 minutes. Strain out the berries after 30 minutes, and once the tea is cooled you should have lost about 50mls of volume to the berries as they absorbed it.

Nic's Sujamma

Ingredients:
Comberry Tea Concentrate
Sakura Cask-finished Japanese Whiskey (I went with Kaigan for budget, but Matsui is fantastic if a little pricier - you could also just go with any other Japanese single malt)
Smoky Scotch (optional, I went with Lagavulin 16 but Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10 are solid as well + cheaper)
Japanese Barleywine (Samurai from Swan Lake was the only one I could find, but you could also just go with a barleywine of your choice)

Add ~50mls lemon juice to the tea, bringing us back to 250mls and pour into a 750 ml vessel. Back in the cup, add 125ml of the Sakura Cask Whiskey and 25ml of a smoky scotch (unless you don't like smoke flavors, then adjust your amount of Sakura Cask Whiskey up as desired), and add this to the vessel as well. Lastly, add a bottle of the Samurai Barleywine (or another barleywine if you can't find a Japanese one); this will bring the final ABV to about 13.2%, similar to a wine or a very strong beer style.

Cheers, Sera!
