8 Common Forms of Process Waste

Описание к видео 8 Common Forms of Process Waste

In this video we discuss the 8 common forms of process waste. To help make recalling the forms of waste easy, we use the acronym DOWNTIME.

DOWNTIME stands for Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilized Talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion, and Extra-Processing.

The 8 common forms of waste include:

Defects
Waste caused by the process's inability to meet the customer's expectations. It occurs in the form of scrap or rework.

Overproduction
Not understanding customer demand. Creating more product than what is needed.

Waiting
Delays in the process that may cause idle parts or idle people.

Non-Utilized Talent
Waste caused by underutilizing talent, skills, and knowledge.

Transportation
Unnecessary movement of a product or materials. Often caused by poor facility layout and planning.

Inventory
Excessive products and materials not being processed. Can lead to increased storage cost and spoilage.

Motion
Unnecessary movement of people (operator, team members, and customer).

Extra-Processing
Waste caused by" gold-plating" or creating higher quality than is required.
