Meaning : but; although; even though
It is used when you want to say that "B" has happened (or is the current state), which is different from what was expected from "A" or is unexpected. It is often used when there is a problem, things do not go smoothly, or the issue remains unresolved. It is primarily used in written language.

あのカフェは高いものの、とても人気がある
→ あのカフェは高いけれども、とても人気がある。
English: Although that café is expensive, it is very popular.
Expected assumption: Since it’s expensive, it wouldn’t be popular.
Reality: It is very popular.
欲しかった靴を買ってもらったものの、まだ1度も使っていない
→ 欲しかった靴を買ってもらったが、まだ1度も使っていない。
English: Although I got the shoes I wanted, I haven’t used them even once.
Expected assumption: Since they were desired shoes, they would be used every day.
Reality: They haven’t been used even once.
新しいスマホを買ったものの、まだ設定が終わっていない。
→ I bought a new smartphone, but I haven’t finished setting it up yet.
彼に謝ったものの、まだ機嫌が直っていないようだ。
→ I apologized to him, but he still doesn’t seem to be in a good mood.
ダイエットを始めたものの、甘いものを我慢できずに食べてしまう。
→ I started a diet, but I can’t resist eating sweets.
1. When 「~ものの」 is connected to forms such as 「ている」、「てみる」、or 「である」, the particle 「は」 is often inserted.
この本の内容は理解してはいるものの、実際に使いこなすのは難しい。
→ I understand the content of this book, but putting it into practice is difficult.
*"使いこなす" means to use something skillfully or to be able to handle something effectively, especially after learning or practicing it. In English, it's similar to saying "to master" or "to get the hang of" something.
ジョギングを始めてはみたものの、三日坊主で終わってしまった。
→ I tried starting jogging, but I quit after just a few days.
*"三日坊主" is a Japanese expression that refers to someone who starts something with enthusiasm but quickly loses interest or gives up after a short time, usually after about three days. In English, it's similar to the phrase "a flash in the pan" or "a short-lived effort."

→ He does have experience, but he lacks knowledge.
2. "~とはいうものの" is often used by connecting it to nouns or phrases when there is a difference between what is generally expected and reality. It is often used when referring to something commonly said in society, to express "It is indeed said that way in the world, but in reality, it is not the case."
新しい映画が公開されたとはいうものの、あまり評判が良くない。
→ The new movie has been released, but it hasn’t received good reviews.
引っ越しは終わったとはいうものの、まだ整理整頓が終わっていない。
→ The move is over, but I still haven’t finished organizing everything.
*"整理整頓" refers to the act of organizing and tidying up, making sure things are in their proper place and everything is neat and orderly. In English, it can be described as "organizing and tidying up" or "arranging things neatly."
健康には気をつけているとはいうものの、ついジャンクフードを食べてしまう。
→ I try to take care of my health, but I end up eating junk food.
*"気をつけている" means to be careful or mindful about something, especially in order to avoid problems or negative outcomes. In English, it can be explained as "being cautious" or "paying attention to." For example, in this case, it means "making an effort to stay healthy."
