Check list of Hot Work Permit:
1. Work Place isolated from any hazardous source of gas, liquid, Fine coal, oil, etc (Yes/No)
2. Fire Sentry briefed on his/her duties (Yes/No)
3. No Bulk Storage facility of flammable or Combustible material with 10 Mts of hot work (Yes/No)
4. Obstruction placed to stop spark propagation (Yes/No)
5. Compressed gas Cylinders securely placed (Yes/No)
6. Checked condition of all tools & accessories for job, like regulator, hose, cables, torch, etc (Yes/No)
7. Flashback arrester fitted to regulator of Oxy-acetylene hoses. (Yes/No)
8. All hazardous material and equipment below the working level of hot work removed for safety (Yes/No)
9. Gas testing for presence of any flammable gases or vapor in the vicinity of work place done. (Yes/No)

The Hot Work Permit system is intended to assure that the individuals involved in construction, renovation, repairs and maintenance of pant activity are aware of the hazards associated with hot work and welding and that they implement control measures to help mitigate them.

Hot work permits are needed for all cutting or welding activities that are conducted with portable gas or arc equipment or involve soldering, grinding, or any other similar activities producing a spark, flame, or heat on University of Arizona construction projects.

Require hot work permits in areas where hazardous materials are stored and cannot be removed, or in areas where flammable atmospheres could exist. It is important for the employer to have a hot work program that covers hot work requirements, including permits.

Jobs like electric arc welding, brazing, gas soldering, and oxygen-acetylene cutting and welding require hot work permits be issued by the Fire Marshal, Safety Engineer, or Maintenance Manager before work begins. Permits are issued for a specific job, for a specific time frame, to a specific person.
