The turnaround time here is only 3 months--they must be getting more efficient, as the quality has not dipped! Perhaps the fact that the Fruit Cup is represented as a Yoshi Fruit, the kind introduced in Super Mario World for Yoshi to eat, was a hint for an all-new course, Yoshi's Island, based on the 16-bit game. The Boomerang Cup is represented by a Boomerang Flower, an obscure power-up from Super Mario 3D Land, but its usage is arguably more popular from within Mario Kart 8 Deluxe itself.

This wave is also the first to add a new character to the roster, though just Birdo. There also appears to be 5 slots in the character select screen marked as "?," suggesting more playable characters will be coming. (My guess is that we'll be seeing Pauline and Dixie Kong among them, as they were playable in Mario Kart Tour. As far as characters never playable in a Mario Kart game before, even Tour, at the top of my wishlist is Topper.)

Race 1 - Tour Amsterdam Drift
This course is a very rough introduction to this wave! It was a lot harder than I expected, with merciless consecutive turns, an underwater second lap, and surprisingly many hazards for a course based on a real world location. This was one of the last city courses for Mario Kart Tour though, so it makes sense.

Race 2 - GBA Riverside Park
In its native game, it was the third course in the Mushroom Cup, though I always thought it felt hard. I think it was deemed not hard enough, or at least not dynamic enough, because Ptooies were added in, who walk the length of the course from after the jump at the bridge to the waterfall. If attacked, they will drop whatever items they were carrying in the air above their heads. The way they move makes Riverside Park function much like a traffic course, though it doesn't look like one.

Race 3 - Wii DK Summit (AKA DK's Snowboard Cross)
When I first saw this course, I thought it was DK Pass from Mario Kart DS. But it's better, because DK Summit, from Mario Kart Wii, is basically a better version of DK Pass! DK Summit features halfpipes and quarterpipes, not only a feature appropriate to the snowboarding theme, but was a recurring feature in Mario Kart Wii. You get a major boost coming down from one, though I'm not sure if it's faster to take the hairpins normally or use the quarterpipes, at least on speeds below 200cc.

Race 4 - Yoshi's Island
This is probably what a lot of people were waiting for! The course is separated into six segments, though more can be seen in the distance. We have a grasslands segment, a seafloor segment, a castle segment (still underwater), a cave segment, an icy segment, and a cloud segment, before it loops back around. Obstacles include Stilt Guys, Huffin Puffins, Piranha Plants, and Sidesteppers. A ? Cloud appears near the end that generates a shorter path if you can hit it when gliding, though it's a very hard target to hit due to its unpredictable nature. If you can get there, however, you can pass through a Goal Ring.

Race 1 - Tour Bangkok Rush
I have been to Bangkok before, so I do recognize some of the landmarks seen here, though I couldn't tell you their names. Compared to Amsterdam Drift, this one's a lot more merciful (despite being the last of the city courses), and I found it pretty neat that they incorporated Bangkok's highways and light rail system elevated above major roads as alternate paths. Really weird to race ON the river, however, at the Floating Market. That's a marketplace where vendors sell goods and foods on boats on the water.

Race 2 - DS Mario Circuit
If you're not familiar with this course, this was the third course in the Star Cup in its native Mario Kart DS, the furthest into the game a non-numbered Mario Circuit has ever been in any Mario Kart game. It was made a LOT easier here though; the original version had the road built right on the edge of the water, and what are wavy paths used to be chicanes.

Race 3 - GCN Waluigi Stadium
You want proof that the team making these courses is learning? Waluigi Stadium has anti-gravity shortcuts added to them. I actually didn't see them as alternate paths until the second lap, when I figured out how to get on them. With this course here though, I guess we're not getting GCN Wario Coliseum. The anti-gravity mechanic would make for a wild reinterpretation.

Race 4 - Tour Singapore Speedway
I don't know much about the geography or landmarks of Singapore, so I can't say much about that, but it does have a very distinctive look about it that's unlike anything else in Mario Kart. I did notice, however, that this course has multiple start/finish lines. That second Mario Kart sign could use a lot more flourish though! (Is it me, or is the final lap a lot longer than the first two?)

By the way, Los Angeles Laps and Vancouver Velocity are the only Tour-original courses left.
