Nickel Plate Road 765: Fall Colors Steam Special 2024 (4K)

Описание к видео Nickel Plate Road 765: Fall Colors Steam Special 2024 (4K)

On the Weekend of October 18th-20th, 2024, many railfans flocked to the Midwest for the Nickel Plate Road Historical Society Annual Convention, which took place in Angola Indiana. This also took place around the same time as this year's Indiana Rail Experience's excursion, Fall Colors Steam Special, led by Fan Favorite, Nickel Plate Road 765. While the official convention excursion was on Friday, hundreds of Railfans came out to see the mighty Berkshire operate in Fall Colors. I would make my way to the event, and chase only Saturday October 18th. That Saturday it would be sunny all day long, and the Fall Colors truly were spectacular, better than last year along the line. Then again, last year's excursions were the first weekend in October. The main draw for myself other than Peak Fall colors this year, was to finally hear the famous 80s Tuning with 765's Whistle, which was achieved last year. Going for locations I needed to redo, and new locations along the Indiana NorthEastern Railroad,I had a fantastic time chasing 765 across the hills, plains and farmlands of Indiana & Michigan. Now sit back, grab some Popcorn and hope you all enjoyed my coverage of Nickel Plate Road 765: Fall Colors Steam Special 2024.

The Nickel Plate Road 765 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire Type Steam Locomotive, built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. It operated for the Railroad until 1958. It was also the last Steam Locomotive Steamed up on the Nickel Plate. After it's retirement it was renumbered 767 and put on Display in Lawton's Park, as the City of Fort Wayne wanted the 767. However the real, 767 was in bad condition and the Nickel Plate Road did not want to scrap 765 as it was a favorite. In 1974 it was pulled out of Lawton Park, and was restored to Operation in 1979 and has operated excursions since all over the Midwest & the North Eastern US and even the South! Since 2022, the Fort Wayne Historical Society has operated a series of excursions with the Indiana Northeastern Railroad, called the Indiana Rail Experience. Since 2022, the 765 has operated at various excursions during this event.

While not seen operating in this video, I did finally get to see the Recently restored Nickel Plate Road 358, and SD9 Built by EMD in 1957. I saw this engine at both Open houses I attended at the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. I do hope to chase this engine at some point on a excursion in the near future.

For the past two weekends I have been out chasing Steam Trains during my favorite time of year! Next two weekends, I will be doing the same! If all goes well, I depart for the Midwest Again tonight, to chase the Pere Marquette #1225 on it's first Cadillac Excursion since 2019. I have been planning this chase since 2016! After that, we will conclude our Fall Colors Season down south if all goes well chasing the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad #1702 as well as a Summerville excursion at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum with #630 & #4501 So stay tuned!
