Ep.34 CRANE MOSAIC BACKGROUND, visiting a Community Mosaic, Cutting glass & Prepping a new project!

It's time to tackle the background on the crane using broken dishes from my mother-in-law. To create an easy ombre effect, I paint the background with watered down acrylics, keeping the white around the head of the crane. The starting with the area around the head, I lay in the gold textured glass.

BONUS: A visit to a Community Mosaic at The Art Place Mountain View. Finished in 2019, it took over 200 volunteer hours to finish the peacock mosaic with bluebirds, two swallowtail butterflies and a bunny with plenty of spring flowers.

Next, I cut down a bunch of Van Gogh class for my students to share in the classroom. It's such an easy glass to cut!

Then it is back to the crane mosaic where I decide to make circular patterns in the background! The glass is a challenge to use because it is brittle and very sharp! Slow and steady wins the race as I complete the background! I love it now that I don't have to cut it anymore.

Lastly I show how to apply thinset to build up a substrate. The round raised area will be for my hand-made ceramic mosaic.
