Nickel Plate Road 765: Tri State Steam Scenic: June 2023 (4K)

One of my biggest regrets out from 2022 was not being able to swing the Nickel Plate Road 765's Tri State Scenic Excursions. In 2022 they ran three of them, and they were the Big Excursion on the Indiana Rail Experience. These excursions were the first time since 2015 765 has pulled an excursion train without a Diesel and able to lead both ways (I'm sure some will remember 2018's Steam in the valley opening evening train where it shoved back). These Trips ran from Edon Ohio, and went West to Steubenville Indiana, where it would go North Indiana, and pass through Pleasant Lake, Angola & Fremont before crossing the State Border in Ray. After that it would go north East to Hillsdale, Passing through, Montgomery, Reading, & Bankers and would return the same route to Edon Ohio after 7 PM.

In 2023, they only were operating one Tri State Scenic excursion the entire season. Honestly with the only Wye on the line in Hillsdale I can honestly understand. However there is a fall excursion planned to run From Pleasant Lake to Hillsdale and return over the course of two days with 765 leading both ways. It was on the Fathers Day, Sunday June 18th. It was a mostly sunny day, with the haze from the Ontario Wildfire Smoke. The chase went according to plan! Giving me some serious Curwood Highlander with Pere Marquette 1225 vibes, just a different Berkshire operating. It even gave me Summerville excursion vibes as well. It truly makes me happy that the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society finally have a location other then Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad where they can operate 765. It was an easy chase, and I look forward to the fall!

The Nickel Plate Road 765 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire Type Locomotive, built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. It operated for the Railroad until 1958. It was also the last Steam Locomotive Steamed up on the Nickel Plate. After it's retirement it was renumbered 767 and put on Display in Lawton's Park, as the City of Fort Wayne wanted the 767. However 767 was in bad condition and the Nickel Plate Road did not want to scrap 765 as it was a favorite. In 1974 it was pulled out of Lawton Park, and was restored to Operation in 1979 and has operated excursions since all over the Midwest & the North Eastern US and even the South! In 2022 Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society celebrated it's 50th Anniversary, and debuted the Indiana Rail Experience with a series of excursions in 2022. The 2023 season expanded upon this, and I look forward to what the future will hold!

The past few weeks I have been editing videos, and uploading them to YouTube as well as enjoying life! In August, there should be another Reading & Northern 2102 along with a Steamtown Adventure. In the fall I am hoping for another chase with 765, as well as 1309! We will see what happens. For now if you did like this video, please give it a like & subscribe to my channel!
