Ep. 206 MORE SPLASHING FOR THE MOSES STRIKING THE ROCK MOSAIC!

Hey Everyone, welcome to my studio!
I have been commissioned by a church to make three mosaics that will go around the sides of a fountain, in between three spillways. They are all in the theme of Moses. Because the fountain is round, I will be working on AR fiberglass mesh with silicone as my adhesive. I am using stained glass and 24k gold smalti. The first mosaic is Moses Striking the Rock.

0:54 After grinding the clothing of the second boy figure, the pieces fit so much better! I am planning on adding waaaay more water droplets in both white glass and white gold glass.
1:22 Starting with some white gold nails, I will be letting the piece dictate the shape and just work on rounding it out. I am saving every last bit of the 24k gold smalti, in case I can use it at a later date.
2:15 Splash and water droplet talk and comparison to a reference photo. The arch of water forms a band that I want to emulate.
3:54 I get after it. Instead of just nipping each piece apart and then adhering in place, I am cutting out openings for the water droplets! Slow business. I end up having to label them as I can't keep track very well otherwise. The Sharpie can be removed with alcohol or vinegar.
6:55 I show how I cut around a long water droplet with hand tools, aiming for a shallow cut.

9:36 I magically fit the boy's face in place (after working off camera on it!)
9:45 I tackle the legs, making pattern pieces and then scoring, breaking, grinding, fitting and nipping the glass in place.
