- 1984년 작곡된 ‘소나무’는 일본의 전통악기 고토를 위한 음악이다. 심각한 환경오염에 시달리는 현대사회와 현대인들의 자연주의적 본능과 욕망을 담고 있다. 음계 구조나 선율 진행에 있어 일본 전통의 색깔을 분명하게 보여주고 있지만, 한국의 가야금 연주자에게도 매우 익숙한 작품이다. 작곡가 백대웅이 25현을 위한 가야금 음악으로 편곡, 그동안 많은 연주자들이 다양한 무대에서 연주해왔기 때문이다. ‘소나무’는 미키 미노루의 가장 대표적인 작품으로, 가야금 버전은 그와 수년간 활발한 음악적 교류를 해온 가야금 연주자 문양숙을 통해 한국에 많이 알려졌기 때문에 이번 협연 무대는 더욱 의미가 깊다.

Composed in 1984, ‘Pine’ is a work for the koto, traditional Japanese instrument. This piece expresses the naturalistic instinct and desire of today’s society and people suffering from severe pollution. Its scale and tune are obviously in the traditional Japanese style but Korean gayageum players are also very familiar with this work. That is because the composer Baek Dae-woong arranged it for the gayageum with 25 strings. Since then, many gayageum players have performed it on a variety of stages. ‘Pine’ is Miki Minoru’s most representative work. Its gayageum version is well known in Korea thanks to the gayageum player Moon Yang-sook who engaged in active musical exchange with the Japanese composer for several years. That is why this stage of collaboration is all the more meaningful.
