This hike is part of the Great North Walk taking you 13.5km from Cowan to Brooklyn through beautiful Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park (see a map of our route via the link below). The first part of the hike from Cowan down to Jerusalem Bay is beautiful but not easy. It takes you on a fairly steep descent down into the park were you end up at Cowan Creek (great spot to take a dip!). As you continue on, however, be ready for a workout as you head up the other side of the valley towards Brooklyn. This part of the hiking trail requires climbing over some big rocks and a lot of technical navigation of loose rocks. It would be a struggle for a beginner hiker.

Birdlife is plentiful the entire way. In particular, a group of Red-tailed black cockatoos can usually be spotted in the trees along the trail down by Cowan Creek. We also saw a couple Golden orb weaver spiders with large webs spanning the trail. It is also easy to stay on the hiking trail as there are red signs pointing the way along the entire route.

Enjoy!
