Liquor factory spreads deadly diseases in nearby villages | Trolley Times Documentaries

ਜ਼ੀਰੇ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਮਨਸੂਰਵਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਆਸ-ਪਾਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ 24 ਜੁਲਾਈ 2022 ਤੋਂ ਧਰਨਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਲਬਰੋਜ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਫੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੀ ਵਜ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਲ਼ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੇਠਲਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਗੰਧਲ਼ਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਵਾ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ (ਬਾਦਲ) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਦੇ ਐੱਮਐੱਲਏ ਰਹੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰੀ ਦੀਪ ਮਲਹੋਤਰਾ ਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਗੈਰਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਮਾਈਨਿੰਗ ਕਰਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਹੇਠ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲੀ ਰਾਖ ਦਬਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ।

5 ਅਗਸਤ 2022 ਨੂੰ ਟ੍ਰਾਲੀ ਟਾਈਮਜ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ, ਰਟੌਲ਼ ਰੋਹੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੀ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਲ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਂਸਰ, ਮਿਹਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਚਮੜੀ ਦੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੈਲਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ। ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਕਰੀਬੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਰੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਤੇ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਿਮਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਛੱਡੀ ਰਾਖ ਪੈ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ਼ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ 50 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਨੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਮਾਲਿਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪੱਲਾ ਝਾੜ ਲਿਆ।

ਕਾਇਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਫੈਕਟਰੀਆਂ ਵਸੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਫੀ ਦੂਰ ਲੱਗਣੀਆਂ ਚਾਹੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਕਿੱਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੂਰੀ ਤੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਹੈ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਖ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਪੀਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਉਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਦਲੀ ਕਰਵਾ ਕੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਫ਼ੈਕਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸ਼ਨ ਕਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

In village Mansurwal (Distt. Ferozepur) of Punjab, farmer unions and locals have been protesting a liquor factory since 24 July 2022. People are accusing the factory by Malbros International Private Limited of polluting the ground water and air in the area. This factory is owned by liquor businessman and politician Deep Malhotra(Ex MLA Faridkot) of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). Villages accused the company of illegal mining and dumping the ashen waste underground.

The Trolley Times team visited the village Ratol Rohi on 5 August 2022. It is closest to the factory and bears the most brunt. We met villagers who complained of a rising number of cancer, and liver and skin diseases. The ash emitted by factories falls on animal fodder, which has resulted in the death of more than 50 buffaloes and cows. When the villagers complained, the factory paid off a meagre compensation to save their skin.

Legally, liquor factories should be established at significant distances from the population. But Government School Ratol Rohi is almost one kilometre away from the factory. The teachers said that ash from the factory falls on the school premises too. They have to bring clean drinking water from their home. One teacher got himself transferred to another school due to the air and water pollution caused by the factory. The factory administration claims they are following all the legal compliances.
