Sweet Polynesian Yellow Buns Recipe in 2022
Samoa's Favourite Pani Samasama
Sweet Island Buns

Ingredients

• 4 cups of bread flour or all-purpose flour
• 7grams sachet of yeast
• 2 tablespoons white sugar
• 1 egg
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup of condensed milk
• 1 cup of warm milk
• 3 drops of yellow food coloring
• 1/4 cup sultans raisins (optional)
• 1 cup of soft butter unsalted (if salt is used then omit the salt)

Steps

1. Add wet ingredients without soft butter in a large bowl and stir to combine
2. Add sugar and keep stirring to dissolve
3. Add yeast and continue stirring (If you need to proof the yeast go ahead cover it for 5 minutes and leave it aside until it becomes frothy otherwise or continue on with the next step).
4. Add flour and salt last and combine until all ingredients come together
5. Add butter and knead into the dough for up to 8 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth
6. Let the dough proof in a large oiled bowl for an hour
7. Once the dough is double in size then roll them out evenly into rolls in a bread tin
8. Let it rise for another 45 minutes
9. Brush the top of the rolls with egg wash and bake in a preheated oven @ 160° for 20-25 minutes
10. Once the buns are baked for 15 minutes, take them out and cover the top with a foil then bake again until it's cooked to avoid the top of the buns from over browning.
11. Enjoy while it's hot with milo

Some tips

* Use a good quality bread flour for a great outcome

* To avoid over browning the top of the buns, bake the buns for 10-15 minutes, then take out of the oven and cover with foil and finish off the baking allocated time.

* Dissolve 1 tbs of sugar and a small amount of hot water then brush the top of the buns when they're baked to have a nice shine cooked buns

* Every oven is different so adjust you oven and baking tile accordingly
