This video will show you how to build your calves with 2 variations of seated calf raises using only bands!

The first variation is pretty much just like using a seated calf raise machine at the gym, except we swap the free weights out with bands, and you don't need a machine. All you need is a bench or a chair, some heavy resistance bands, a strong rod / tube / bar, and the Clench Fitness footplate.

It is super simple to setup, just place a 41 inch band under the footplate using one of the short channels. Place your feet on top of the footplate with the balls of your feet directly over the resistance band, and your heels hanging off the board. Then loop each end of the band onto the bar, stand up, pull the bar onto your quads and sit down on the bench (it's nice to have a towel or barbell pad on the bar so there's some cushion between your quads and the bar). From there, all you need to do is crank out some slow and controlled reps and sets, making sure you have adequate resistance.

The 2nd variation is a single leg seated calf raise. We'll work one leg at a time with this calf training exercise. All you need to do is grab a heavy 41 inch band, step into it, and wrap it around the small of your back like a belt. Then sit down on the bench and place the other end of the band right around the ball of your foot. From there, focus on keeping your leg straight, and pivot at your ankle joint allowing for full range of motion. Really work to get full flexion and a good calf stretch at the bottom of the rep, and then drive through your toes to get full extension and really squeeze your calf muscles at the top of the rep!

Both of these exercises are great for building weak calves in to strong and powerful calves. The seated variation with the bar will allow you to go heavy and really work for strength and hypertrophy. The 2nd single leg variation will help to finish them off, and also build ankle stability and strength.
