Catching wild birds for everyday food, Nanumaga Island, Tuvalu by NATU; Monden Natsuyo

On Nanumaga island, they weave huge nets to catch wild birds. We all head for the forest at night to forage. The hunter climbs up to a tall tree with the net and imitates the chirping sounds of birds, which lures the prey. I could not shoot the moments the net grabbed the birds as we needed to keep it dark. We, the helpers under the tree, pluck the feathers, count the number, and grill them over the coconut shell charcoal the next day. This is one of the everyday diets in remote islands in Tuvalu. (* These wild birds are black noddies and brown noddies in this film.)

I have been staying on remote islands in Tuvalu since 2004.
This is from our (I and my 7yr old daughter then) second stay on Nanumaga island.
