Roofing with 'Fala': Pandanus leaves, Nanumaga Island, Tuvalu by NATU; Monden Natsuyo

We traditionally roof houses with dried leaves of Fala, a kind of Pandanus tree in Tuvalu, South Pacific. You sew them onto a coconut-frond wood, then tie them onto the top of the house. The roof lasts around 8 years. Here in the South Pacific community, kids are always playing around beside working people, and we eat together after work without exception.

I have been staying on remote islands in Tuvalu since 2004.
This is from our (I and my 7 yr. old daughter then) second stay in Nanumaga island.
