How a routine traffic stop turns into a disaster

On December 5th, 2023 at around 12:14 AM, an officer for Oconee County Sheriff's Office stops a vehicle for failing to use a turn signal to change lanes. Officer asks driver for her license to which the passenger in the car replies she does not have one. Passenger instead gives his license to the officer. Officer asks the driver for her name and date of birth. She gives the officer this information, stumbling through the details. Officer asks passenger to leave the vehicle to ask questions. Passenger immediately admits she had given officer a false name and date of birth. Officer quickly determines passenger has a warrant for his arrest in another county and detains him. Officers then ask driver to exit the vehicle, which she refuses. There is a physical struggle to apprehend driver. Driver continues to resist, throwing verbal insults and kicking officer in the chest in a struggle to put her in the backseat of patrol car. Officers transport both suspects to county jail. Driver continues to obstruct investigation by not providing identification. Officers are able to retrieve this information through fingerprints and find out driver had a suspended license for failing to appear and driving under the influence.

3. Giving false name, address or birthdate to law enforcement officer
