Quite by chance, Tim Kennedy from Sale Harriers kindly gifted me his place for this prestigious event, one I had always wanted to do - and one I'd never been able to get a place for. Just walking around the start, you could tell that this was a serious race, there were runners from all over the country and the leadering pack expected to go sub-14 minutes! This was a bit of a test for me, I hadn't raced on the road since Geneva 10K in early May and had cut back my running from 20-25K per week to just 5K (Parkrun) since I started laster treatment for my heel pain issue in late June. So, the question was, how much of my residual fitness had I retained?
