Super Mario Land (1989) | Wranker 4K Gameboy Real Hardware 100% Walkthrough | Retrotink 4K

Full playthrough of Super Mario Land, released in 1989 for the Nintendo Gameboy, played on the original hardware, using the Japanese Super Gameboy Player 2, clocked at the correct speed.

I never owned a Gameboy as a kid, but my cousin did, and every time he brought it round, he had to wrestle this game out my hands. Headed up by the legendary Gameboy creator, Gunpei Yokoi (RIP), Super Mario Land was an excellent early title for the low powered handheld, showing what was possible on the platform. Although getting a lot of criticism at the time for being very short, in retrospect, a no death run took me longer than a playthrough of Castlevania, Contra, and the NES version of Super Mario Bros.

Obviously, it isn't played on an actual Gameboy, but the Super Gameboy 2, electronically, is a Gameboy in a SNES cartridge, making it real hardware. The original Super Gameboy, released in the west used the incorrect crystal oscillator, making the clock speed slower than intended. This was fixed in the second iteration.

On a side note, I haven't uploaded for a couple of weeks as I have been dealing with some personal issues. The good news is, my RetroTink 4K finally arrived from the states, it is a magnificent piece of hardware and will replace my RetroTink 5x going forward. In that time, I have also been working on my retro console collection, and I finally got my hands on an elusive 1-Chip SNES which provides the best possible picture of all the Super Nintendo revisions, it was used for this video. I have fully modded the console with a custom RGB amplifier and Borti's AIO mod, and in my opinion, the picture is stunning. This means there will be more SNES representation on the channel, in fact I'm currently playing through a very challenging SNES title.
