Women in Tuvalu have the skills to weave stupendously intricate patterns into their mats. The designs and the methods differ from island to island. This one is by Asenati, my dearest sister on Nanumaga island. You can see the completed mats in the file 'Farewell Party for the pastor's family'.
I thank you, Asenati, from the bottom of my heart. You taught me how to weave mats and all the other precious ways of living.

I have been staying on remote islands in Tuvalu since 2004.
The footage is from our (I and my 11yr. old daughter then) fourth stay on Nanumaga island.
