Connor: Hey guys, how's it going Connor here today at etrailer.com. We're going to be taking a look at the Kodiak disc brake kit here for our 2020 Jayco Pinnacle fifth wheel. So here you can see, we have our disc brake kit installed. Now, I'm sure your wondering are what are the benefits of upgrading to this brakes And there's going to be plenty. Number one, the stopping power is going to be much improved here with our disc brakes. They're definitely going to bite a lot harder than your drum brakes and we're going to have more clean, smooth, and even stopping power, more relative to our tow vehicles braking.
So another reason that people upgrade to disc brakes is in regards to maintenance. Maintenance for disc brakes is going to be much easier compared to drum brakes. In regards to the drum braking assemblies, there's a lot more moving parts, a lot more mechanical aspects that could go wrong and fail and need replace. With our disc brake kit here, we only have a few main components. We have the disc brake caliper, and then we have the piston, which compresses the pads onto the rotor to slow our trailer. So another feature that I really like about this disc brake kit in particular is it allows us to use an oil bath system.
Now, the oil bath lubrication system, in my experience, it's just going to be a lot less hassle. It's going to be a lot less messy as well when compared to grease. We don't have to worry about packing our bearings. We simply undo this plug right here, squirt some oil into our hubs, give it a couple of turns so that everything will work into place and as long as we're at the fill line there, we're good to go. So another nice feature about this particular kit here, is we actually had the larger 916 inch wheel studs.
Now, this is going to allow for more weight, they're going to be more durable than the standard half inch studs, which you probably have, and it will be replacing. However, most of the wheels nowadays that work with the half inch studs are also going to work with a 916 inch studs. So you don't need to worry about getting new wheels either. So with this particular kit here, we're going to get a 13 inch diameter rotor, which is going to be plenty of stopping power for our tandem 7,000 pounds axles, which is what this kit is also designed for. And again, touching on the bolt pattern, it's going to be the eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern, which again is going to be an industry standard for the most part on these larger trailers. So there are other kits on the market, other disc brake kits in particular that have sort of a different construction here.
We have both two and one piece hub and rotors. So essentially what this means is with our kit here, we have the hub and rotor integrated into one another. And this is going to make things a little bit easier for installation. We're not going to have to deal with as many parts. We don't have to worry about compatibility as much because everything's going to be included for you. Now, there are other kits, if you'd prefer where the hub in the rotor is available separately. So keep in mind with our kit here, it is going to come with most of the parts we need. However, there are going to be a couple of other things such as our bearings and our oil seal, as well as some lubrication for our oil bath hub. But we do sell all these here through etrailer. So something I like about the Kodiak branded disc brakes, is they come with what is called a dacromet finish. What this dacromet finish is, it's essentially an added level of protection for your disc brake and components. Therefore, we're not going to have to worry about any rust or corrosion issues. It's going to be perfect if we have a boat trailer or it's going to work on our fifth wheel travel trailers as well. So keep in mind, our disc brake kit here is just going to be one of the many other components that we're going to need to confer our trailer from electric drum to hydraulic disc brakes. A list of those components are going to be not only the brake kit, and our bearing, and our lubrication, we're also going to need brake lines as well as an electric over hydraulic actuator. Again, we saw all these here through etrailer.com if you need to pick these up. So with regards to installation, this is defi
