In Nanumaga island in Tuvalu, where 500 people live, they collect coconut toddy (called Kaleve) everyday, and stew it in order to make it last long. To prevent it from boiling over, you also put some slices of coconut in the pan. When you finish your work, you find yourself surrounded by many kids who want those used coconut pieces (called Pahiniu). Yummy! [ May. 16, 2005]
I have been staying in remote islands in Tuvalu since 2004.
This is from our (I and my 4 yr. old daughter then) first stay in Nanumaga island.
