President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joins fellow Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for the 45th ASEAN Summit Retreat Session at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) on October 9, 2024.

In this Session, Leaders are set to engage in discussions on the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) regarding Myanmar and exchange views on regional and international issues.

President Marcos Jr. is expected to emphasize the importance of upholding ASEAN principles and the rules-based international order while reaffirming sovereign rights and jurisdiction in the South China Sea in accordance with international law, among others.

The Retreat Session serves as a crucial gathering for the Leaders of ASEAN Member States, allowing them to engage in an informal meeting where pressing regional issues can be discussed in a more candid and relaxed setting compared to formal sessions.
