Welcome to Edible Creations! Today's recipe is Saffron Rice.

Saffron rice is one of those dishes that instantly feels special. Long-grain basmati simmered with whole spices, finished with golden saffron strands and a touch of ghee — it’s simple, yet luxurious. The subtle sweetness from raisins balances the warmth of the spices, making it the perfect side for rich curries, dals, or even a way to revive leftover biryani masala.
Whether you’re making it for a family meal, a festive spread, or just to elevate your everyday dinner, this saffron rice never fails to impress. And the best part? It comes together in under 30 minutes with pantry staples plus a pinch of saffron. 🌸


🌸 Saffron Rice Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups long grain basmati rice
4 cups water (for cooking rice)
1 tbsp butter or ghee
Salt to taste
¼ cup raisins
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp black cumin seeds (shahi jeera)
5–6 whole black peppercorns
1 bay leaf
2 cinnamon sticks
3 cloves
1 black cardamom
Few fresh mint leaves
10 saffron strands + ½ cup hot water (for blooming)

Method:
Prep the rice
Rinse basmati rice 3–4 times until the water runs clear.
Soak the rice in fresh water for 20 minutes (this helps keep the grains long and fluffy).
Bloom the saffron
Add saffron strands to ½ cup hot water and let them sit for 20 minutes.
This releases color, aroma, and flavor beautifully.
Cook the aromatics
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a heavy-bottom pan.
Add black cumin seeds, black peppercorns, bay leaf, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and black cardamom.
Sauté for 30–40 seconds until fragrant.
Cook the rice
Pour in 4 cups water. Add salt and a few mint leaves. Bring to a rolling boil.
Drain soaked rice and add it to the boiling water.
Stir once, then cover and cook on low heat for 10–15 minutes until the rice is fully cooked.
Finish with saffron & ghee
Once rice is cooked, drizzle the saffron water evenly on top.
Add 1 tbsp butter or ghee.
Turn off the heat, cover again, and let it rest undisturbed for 5 minutes.
Garnish & serve
Gently fluff the rice with a fork (don’t mash).
Garnish with raisins.
Serve hot with curry, dal, or as a base for biryani.
