In Maharashtra it is a tradition of worshiping all the diyas on Aashadhi amavasya. On the new moon before the special month of Shravan starts, is the celebration of Divyachi Amavasya, or the New Moon of Lamps. On this day, the home’s lamps are cleaned, polished and worshipped. For that evening, they are all replaced with (edible) lamps made of wheat flour in which oil is poured and the lamps are lit.
